Mode II Flight Orientation
Flight Orientation
Mode II
10 Nov 2007
Left Stick - Throttle, Rudder, Collective
Right Stick - Aileron, Elevator
The terminology of "UP" and "DOWN" should NOT be associated to describe the flight orientation of the model. Using these words can be conflicting as you progress to 3D flying.
When we think of the words "up" and "down", we associate it relative to the "Sky" and the "Earth". This is true when the model is flying upright. But when the model is inverted, giving a stick input command of "UP" may cause the model to descend towards the Earth.
Have you ever heard some one yell "Pull Up"?
The terms to use should be "Relative" to the model. Such terms can be, Towards the Blade or "Pull", and Towards the Skids or "Push".
A visualization of the term Pull equates to the radio control stick (elevator) moving towards you and Push when the radio control stick (elevator) moves away from you.
Whether the model is upright or inverted, using the terms relative to the model will be less confusing.
The same goes for a left cyclic (aileron) or right cyclic (aileron). Using the terms, "Towards the Muffler" or "Push", and "Away from the Muffler" or "Pull".
Choose the terms that are relative to the model when describing the orientation or stick input required.
