2008 Sept 26
1) Remove the pre-installed bearing. Clean the pinion surface with alcohol and reinstall with loctite.
2) Clean the pinion threads and add loctite.
Refer to page 5 of the manual for a listing of the required parts and component assembly..
The bearing comes pre-installed on the pinion. It is frictioned fitted and over time the bearing's inner race will wear the pinion.
Tip: To prevent the pinion from wearing, it is recommended to remove the bearing and apply loctite.
On this build, the bearing was loctite at the factory, but I took the liberty and ensured that I did the work myself.
The down side to securing the bearing to the pinion with loctite will require you to split the main frames in order to remove the clutch bell assembly.
A cloth pin prevents damage to the pinion threads when using a pliers to fasten the pinion to the clutch bell housing.
A piece of wood with a hole less then the OD of the pinion gear tooth. The wood is cut in half after driling the hole.
Clean the pinion and bearing surface with isoprophol achol and ensure that the mating surface are oil free.
Apply loctite and fasten the pinion to the bell housing.
Tip: The technique used to tighten the pinion to the clutch bell housing are illustrated in the photos.
Use a piece of wood or similiar material to avoid damaging the pinion gear tooth.
